> [ ...Hello? ]
> [ Welcome to the world of Pokémon! People Call me Prof. Oak. This world is inhabited by creatures called Pokémon! ]
> [ You are about to embark on a long journey with Pokémon. They will be your company along the way. ]

What is the PWO Pokémon League?

The PWO Pokémon League is a simulation of a Pokémon adventure. Each PWOian may pick some Pokémon to accompany them on their adventure.

From start to finish, you will go on your journey- gathering items, catching and evolving their own Pokémon. Pokémon may be obtained by many ways- capturing wild Pokémon, hatching an Egg, by an event, or by trading. You can explore; everyone will explore the world at the same rate to prevent confusion. When a new town is reached, information about the town will be posted including any events around the town. The Battle Expert will post information about the gym if there is one. Along the way, you will meet characters from within the plotline, and maybe even befriend them.

If you're ever lost along the way, many of the other trainers in the League will be willing to help! You can also mail Prof. Samuel Oak, mei, or Pikanyaa.

Alola, trainers! Are you enjoy our little celebration? We hope so, because we're still going full steam! Here our next weekly theme...

The theme for this week is Gijinkas.
More content!
If you haven't started your next Pokemon, please draw it as a gijinka, and if you requested a challenge, you may still incorporate it for double the feather reward. If you have already started your next Pokemon picture, you may finish & post it to receive feathers.

If you haven't yet requested a Pokemon from this event, comment on this post and I'll roll one for you!

[weakly crawls in and raises hand] I'm not dead, I'm just working nearly full-time for free thanks to the joys of internships and end most days with negative spoons.

You should know by now that gijinka are my jam and I'll always find a way to make time for them. (And so many of the new ones are begging to be humanized...) (No emoji though pls.)
Prof. Samuel Oak @ Monday, January 23rd 2017, 7:10 AM
Our resident gijinka fanatic! Welcome back! Why don't we start you off with... Lunala? (That sounds like a good one for you!)
MPD @ Monday, January 23rd 2017, 4:51 PM
Reijy's Lunala is going to be so crazy I'm hyped that sounds radical. What have you got in store for me? I'll take an emoticon too though I may or may not actually use it.
Prof. Samuel Oak @ Monday, January 23rd 2017, 6:15 PM
Tansy, try E4 for your Jangmo-oMarshadow! (reroll granted since Jangmo-o and Kommo-o are so similar)

Color using 2 distinct light sources. This is meant to help you understand how light and shadow work in a more complex way.

Would you like another Pokemon (+challenge)?

I really admire how Absel works at making her art anatomically correct, so I gave it a go for this challenge!

I'll take another + challenge
Pikanyaa @ Tuesday, January 17th 2017, 6:28 PM
I do see the influence! ^-^ Absel's style really is unique and probably hard to emulate, but you did a good job, even if it is just a sketch.
Prof. Samuel Oak @ Tuesday, January 17th 2017, 6:32 PM
You receive 2 white feathers, and your next Pokemon is Fomantis! Here's your challenge...
Make it a pixel art sprite! (If you can only do traditional art and don't want to attempt "pixels", mention so and I'll change your challenge.)
Absel123 @ Wednesday, January 18th 2017, 4:17 PM
Honestly, this melted my heart! I didn't realize anyone admired my style for the anatomy part!

You did really well! I love how fluffy his face is. <3 I just wanna hug him!

I'm digging this. Is it weird to say that the thumbnail looks really cool?
Prof. Samuel Oak @ Monday, January 16th 2017, 7:42 PM
(I actually didn't notice the teal in the light source until I tilted my monitor back. It's slight but it's there!)

You receive two black, 2 green, 2 blue, and 2 white feathers! Your next Pokemon is Hakomo-o, and here's your challenge...
Use all six primary & secondary colors in your subject (not the background). This will show you how relative color truly is, and depending on how you incorporate it, blends can lead to unique results! (Example- page 4 of "making colors work" on this tutorial gives an overview on how the colors worked)
Absel123 @ Monday, January 16th 2017, 7:42 PM
@MPD: Not at all! Thank you!
Pikanyaa @ Tuesday, January 17th 2017, 7:49 AM

Prof. Samuel Oak @ Monday, January 16th 2017, 6:18 PM
Haha, not exactly what we meant by one-point perspective, but you still get 2 feathers for the Pokemon. Take a black one and a blue one!

Your next Pokemon is the tinier heart dragon, Jangmo-o! Here's your challenge...
Incorporate the "Golden Ratio/Spiral" into your picture. This will help you learn how to create a more pleasing composition.
MPD @ Thursday, January 19th 2017, 5:42 PM
I don't even know what the pun would be, but hope you still love it nonetheless xP
Pikanyaa @ Thursday, January 19th 2017, 7:08 PM

Oh my goodness this became so incredibly tedious and boring. Do you have any idea how many hearts I drew for this? Because I sure don't. I feel like every time I do something that might be really cool or look nice it's done with some crazy, time-consuming technique that I'll never want to use ever again.

I'll take another, and I'll take another artist's challenge, but please do not give me negative space again for the rest of the month because I just will not do this again. Thank you!
Arf @ Monday, January 16th 2017, 3:47 PM
This is one of my favorite things to do!!(I'm a sucker for repetitive mindless tasks...it's therapeutic in a way) It turned out quite nice for you~
Prof. Samuel Oak @ Monday, January 16th 2017, 3:47 PM
You receive three green feathers! (Gave you an extra since this obviously was time consuming.)
Also for the record, if you ever get a challenge you're not enjoying or no longer want to do, you can just draw the picture without it. You won't get penalized or anything. :) And I'll make sure you don't get negative space again.

Your next Pokemon is Oricorio (Baile style)! Here's your challenge...
Draw using a one or two-point perspective. (Example)
Absel123 @ Monday, January 16th 2017, 4:13 PM
My Figure Drawing teacher is teaching me to do this right now with my figures to help me think differently while looking at the figure! It can get boring at times, but it can also be pretty useful!

This is actually really cool! And you did really well for how tedious it can become! Great job!
Pikanyaa @ Monday, January 16th 2017, 5:53 PM
"I feel like every time I do something that might be really cool or look nice it's done with some crazy, time-consuming technique that I'll never want to use ever again."
Yuuuup, I've been there. <w<; Experimenting can be fun at times, frustrating at others...

But as tedious as this may have been, you did it well! Especially considering you got one of the most complex Pokemon to do it with.

Done in another user's style! Can you guess whose? It's someone whose style I admire, but never really tried imitating before. I don't think I do the style justice, as I don't know the user's technique. But hey I tried?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xG89dCZqPtM&feature=youtu.be&t=2s
Prof. Samuel Oak @ Monday, January 16th 2017, 9:47 AM
You receive two red feathers and two blue feathers!

Your next Pokemon is Kommo-o! Here's your challenge, and it's a tough one...
Draw the negative space around & through the Pokemon rather than the Pokemon itself. This may help shape your perception of textures if you ever decide to try to draw something with a more realistic style, though you may keep it simple for this picture. (i.e. a stencil-like negative space drawing is perfectly fine) (examples & explanation) (other examples)
Pikanyaa @ Monday, January 16th 2017, 5:51 PM
I immediately know whose style this was when I clicked on it & noticed the lines, which are my favorite part of that style. Great imitation! ^_^
MPD @ Thursday, January 19th 2017, 5:45 PM
I was surprised that you guessed it so quickly! Kartana's anatomy is weird, so even though I redid it a few times I still am not completely happy with this one.

Your next Pokemon is Kartana. Here's your challenge...
Draw your subject in another member's style! Studying the style of other artists will get you to notice differences in how you draw things, which may give you ideas for things to improve upon or experiment with that you never noticed before.
Pikanyaa @ Monday, January 16th 2017, 5:51 PM

Give me a 'mon! I'd also like to take the Artist's Challenge!
Prof. Samuel Oak @ Sunday, January 15th 2017, 8:14 PM
Absel, your Pokemon is Cosmoem! Here's your challenge...
Color using a colored light source (green, blue, etc.) This will get you to think about how light interacts with subject colors to make a color outcome you might not typically expect.
MPD @ Sunday, January 15th 2017, 8:27 PM
Does it have to be an Alolan version of a Kanto Pokemon? Could we make Alolan forms for Pokemon from gens 2-6? If so I'll take one! If not then I guess I'll just take a gen 7 Pokemon. Or it's completely random? Whatever, I'll do the artist's challenge too <3
Prof. Samuel Oak @ Sunday, January 15th 2017, 8:31 PM
This week is just Gen 7 Pokemon, but I like the idea of creating Alolan forms of Pokemon that didn't get them, so we'll definitely do something with it! Keep an eye on each weekly event for more on that later! ;)

Anyway MPD, your Pokemon is Dewpider! Here's your challenge...
Draw your subject's lineart using one continuous line- a "contour" line. A Continuous Contour Line Drawing is an exercise to help you focus on the line and adapt your mistakes rather than erasing them. If you have never done this exercise you may find your drawings odd and “imperfect” but that is what makes them beautiful. Also focus on looking at what you are drawing as much as the drawing itself and do not stop moving your hand when you look up. (Credit)
Note- If you have pen pressure, make sure your line is easily visible throughout the entire picture. Don't let it get soft enough that it almost disappears!
MPD @ Sunday, January 15th 2017, 8:35 PM
Oh whoops, I misinterpreted what you meant by, "Comment in this post, and I'll give you a 7th generation Pokemon to draw, either a completely new one or an Alolan variant of a Kanto Pokemon." I was thinking about what we were talking about in the chat, and thought you could end up with something like Mr. Mime and need to do it as an Alolan Pokemon. I see what you mean now, thanks for the clarity!
Sredni-Ezrah-Vt @ Monday, January 16th 2017, 9:14 AM
I would like a pokemon+challenge, please.
Prof. Samuel Oak @ Monday, January 16th 2017, 9:44 AM

Color using only yellows & purples. The idea is to see what you can do with a very limited color palette.
Nobara @ Monday, January 16th 2017, 10:04 AM
I haven't been here in forever but I need some art block breakage >_> hook me up with the works prof! (Poke and challenge please)

Prof. Samuel Oak @ Tuesday, January 17th 2017, 12:22 PM
Melody, your Pokemon is Araquanid! Here's your challenge...
Shade using a hatching technique. Using hatching in your shading can often add more depth to your image than just solid blocks of color.

Akeesha, your Pokemon is Tapu Bulu! Here's your challenge...
Color using a colored light source (green, blue, etc.) This will get you to think about how light interacts with subject colors to make a color outcome you might not typically expect.

MPD @ Wednesday, January 11th 2017, 10:36 AM
You're so welcome! I'm really glad you're happy ^_^ Take good care of Ditto! Does it have a name yet?

I'm looking at the hat and trying to figure out what it says. I know you're into Korean stuff so my first guess is something like it being ㅺ (or ㅅᄀ) but that doesn't really make any sense to me so I'm like ok, this is not Korean. Which is fine because I am not very familiar with Korean anyways. My next thought is that it looks like it's probably Japanese, if it isn't Korean. I know it isn't Hiragana or Katakana so I'm going to need to do some research. I'm figuring it's probably some kanji that I just don't know. (Let's face it, even most Japanese people aren't going to know half of the kanji out there, and I'm barely past novice level at best with Eastern languages.) The first one looks a little bit like a 人 to me, but the tail on the right is throwing me off. This alone depending on language could mean anything from "people" or "adult" to "artificial", "mortal", or "sexual intercourse". So as much as I'm sure Viola would TOTALLY sport something in-character with "Sexual intercourse" written on it, I'm also clueless as to what the next character might be, and the first one isn't really giving me any hints. The closest I can guess is "人っ" (Hit) which COULD make sense, but really doesn't look close enough to me to what you drew.

So I took your characters and turned them into an image. I downloaded Google's translate app. It cannot detect them as any recognizable characters in Japanese. Or Korean. Or Chinese. I bumped up the contrast until it was black against white and blew it up. I downloaded several extra translation packs. It still can't detect it in any language. Sometimes in Chinese the first character will blip to say "large" before changing back. So even the almighty Google cannot even with your calligraphy. So I give up! Any hints?
Arf @ Wednesday, January 11th 2017, 2:54 PM
XD Wow, you were very thorough!!
It is actually Korean [since Viola is half Korean]--but it is slang, a shortened form of 수고(sugo) which means "effort", and when used it basically means "good effort" or "nice job". Kinda like how people say gg for good game.
(I'm thinking Mojo for the name^^)
